Acts of kindness of the ‘Yis"a Bracha’ illuminated the world.
Two personal cards of the ‘Yis"a Bracha’ the Holy Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elishar, the Rishon L’Tzion from the great Rabbanim of Jerusalem. In which he lists requests for charitable acts of kindness required urgently. As it seems, requests from his relative a philanthropist and generous person, requesting a loan for the poor and requests for benevolence and visiting of the needy sick, for the poor of Jerusalem at that time. 


On one card, the ‘Yis"a Bracha’ writes: requesting in a pleading language. The crying of the poor… if able to lend for our Kollel as a donation a Napolian to keep them alive at this time…

On both sides of the 2nd card, the ‘Yis"a Bracha’ writes as follows: I am requesting you to go to visit R’ Shaul Kohen who is a true great scholar, a Kohen and very needy, and you will merit to fulfill commandments.


The Holy Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elishar, known by the nickname the ‘Yis"a Bracha’, the Rishon L’Tzion Rav of Jerusalem. Was born in 1817, served many years as Dayan of Jerusalem. In the year 1869 he was appointed to serve as ab"d in Jerusalem. In the year 1880 he was appointed to serve as Rishon L’Tzion, but he gave it up on behalf his mechutan Rabbi Raphael Meir (ben Yehuda) Panigel (1804–1893). After the passing of the Rav Panigel  in the year 1893, he was than crowned to serve as Rishon L’Tzion, in a ceremony that took place in the Beit HaKnesset on the name of Rabbi Yochenen ben Zakai in Jerusalem. He served this important task for 13 years until his passing. He inpired many,  and left his mark for many generations. Authored many sefarim which were named by the first letters of his name Ai"sh: Simcha L’Ai"sh, Masey Ai"sh, Derech Ai"sh, Divrei Ai"sh, Olot Ai"sh, Shal HaAi"sh, Kevod L’Ai"sh and Pnei Ai"sh. He passed away in 1906.
