The Great Gaon Rabbi Yosef Yisrael Deutch ab"d Balassagyarmat, son of the Great Gaon Rabbi Aharon David Deutch disciple of the Chasam Sofer and author of ‘Goren David’ from the disciples of the Gaon ‘Kesav Sofer’, served as ab"d in Sandra, and after the passing of his father was requested by the community of Balassagyarmat to serve as ab"d on his fathers place, and he served this duty for 49 years.
He was known for his genius and righteousness. Was famous for his great humbleness, even though some individuals from his students set up Batei Din in the district of his Rabbinate! He authored the sefer ‘Ben Garni’ on Torah.
