‘Tashbetz’ (called
‘Tashbetz Katan’ to differentiate from sefer ‘Tashbetz Gadol’ authored by Rabbi Simeon ben Zemah Duran).
A collection of Divrei Torah and Halachic customs from the MaHaRa"M of Rothenburg, authored by his disciple Rabbi Samson ben Tzadok. Cremona, 1816.
As it is known the MaHaRaM of Rothenburg was imprisoned after attempting to ascend to Eretz Yisrael, the Emperor Rudolph I demanded a huge amount of money of 20,000 Marks but the MaHaRaM refused to permit his disciples and followers to ransom him for the amount the Emperor requested fearing that this will lead to similar acts in the future – according the Mishnah in Tractate Gitin 4:6: "אין פודין את השבויין יתר על כדי דמיהן מפני תיקון העולם"
During the time he was incarcerated his trusty disciple Rabbi Samson ben Tzadok was permitted to assist him there he absorbed from him for a long time. At this time he wrote down the customs he saw by his Rabbi and at the end he published this in his sefer ‘Tashbe"tz’
