Valuable discovery! Small note personally holy hand written from the Great and Holy Rabbi Meir of Premishlan about handing over a new frock to someone of his community, this may be one of many thousands charity activities of which his name was famous and legendary for generations.
The holy wording of this treasured note is: ‘שייך לר’ אברהם עם החלאט חדש פאס…נזה… שיש תחת ידי [או ידו] על …’ כהשערה יתכן, כי בפיתקא זו מוסר על אחד ממעשי הצדקה שלו, בנתינת מלבוש לבן ישראל.
The Great and Holy Rabbi Meir of Premishlan (1783-1850) son of the Holy Rabbi Aron Leib and grandson of the Holy Rabbi Meir HaGadol of Permishlan (who was a disciple of the Holy Ba’al Shem Tov). Was from the great Chasidic luminaries of the earlier generation, from the great wonder workers who helped the Jewish nation. Disciple of the Holy Rabbi Mordechai of Kremnitz and the Holy Choze of Lubin. Wonders are told of his generosity in distributing charity. He was well known for distributing all his possessions to charity without leaving anything for himself, with his great modesty he saw himself only as a simple distributor (gabay) of charity.
