Magnificent and heavy silver Etrog box, from the Great Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin, son of the ‘Netziv’ of Volozhin, which he received from his congregation on Succot of the year 1900, as skillfully engraved on the walls of the beautiful box.
The magnificent box is very impressive. 429 gr.,protruding floral decoration gently and skillfully. Engraved on the walls on various places: ‘מתנה שלוחה לרבינו ה"ג/ חיים ברלין/ תר"ס’
(The gift was sent to our Rabbi the Great Gaon Chaim Berlin, 1900), The top cover also has floral decoration and engraving, with prominent caption ‘פרי עץ הדר’,
with delicate silver feet at the bottom, floral decorated.
The renowned Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin [1832-1912] was the first born son of the ‘Netziv’ of Volozhin, great grandson of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, Rav of the great cities of Volozhin, Moscow, and Jerusalem, was Rosh Yeshivah in Volozhin for a while and from the great Rabbanim in his generation. He served likewise as the Rav in the city of Kobryn and in the city of Kropyvnytskyi (in Ukrain) and its surroundings.
