[1] page 10×13 cm. Hand written on both sides of the page, by the holy Rabbi Yosef Chaim – the ‘Ben Ish Chai’. One side has some words crossed off by the author.
Rabbi Yosef Chaim ben Eliyahu of Bagdad (1835-1909), author of the ‘Ben Ish Chai’ and additional sefarim, from great Rabbanim and Mekubbalim of his generation, who was also a leader, lecturer and poet. Disciple of his uncle Rabbi David Chai, and disciple of Rabbi Abdallah Somekh. Although he refused to take official position in the community, he was recognized as a leader for tens of years. He gave sermons for a crowd of thousands every Shabbat after Tefilat Minchah, authored more than hundred sefarim in all Torah topics, riddles and more, and answered to questions about Halachah and Kabbalah. His verdicts were accepted in the communities of India, Persia, Syria and Israel. In 1869, Rabbi Yosef Chaim and his brother Rabbi Yechezkel visited Israel, and prayed at the graves of righteous in Galil. At the Tomb of Benayahu ben Yehoyada deep secrets were revealed to Rabbi Yosef Chaim including the source of his soul is from this Tzadik, therefor he gave to some of his sefarim names in connection to Benayahu ben Yehoyada. He is known by his famous sefer ‘Ben Ish Chai’ which includes lectures combining subjects of the Parasha of the week and Halacha verdicts. In 1909 on his way to the grave of the Navi Yechezkel (Ezekiel’s Tomb, located in Al Kifl, Iraq) Rabbi Yosef Chaim fell ill and passed away on the 13th day of Elul, 1909. He was at a later time brought to rest on Har HaZaitim in Jerusalem.
