Letter from Rabbi Shimshon Altman, in it a list of donors to the Austria-Hungary Kollel, for receipts to be sent to them. Szendro (Hungary), 1928. 


[1] 29 cm. Official letter head, hand written and signed by Rabbi Shimshon Altman abd Szendro and it environs. Added at the end of the letter is a receivers hand written confirmation on the final writing of the receipts on the 10th day of Cheshvan 1928.

Rabbi Shimshon Altman hy"d Rav and abd Szendro and Paks and environs, born around the year 1890, to his father Rabbi Yehuda Altman abd Mezocsat (Mezo-Csath/Tchata). Learned by his father and later in the Yeshiva of Pressburg headed by the ‘Daat Sofer’ Rabbi Akiva Sofer. In the years 1934 and 1943 he published the sefer of his father Shut ‘Mei Yehudah’ on Shilchon Aruch. Received semicha for Hora’ah from sages in Hungary: Rabbi Moshe Leib Winkler, Rabbi Shmuel Rosenber, Rabbi Akiva Sofer, and Rabbi Leib Friedman Rabd Pressburg. He was Rosh Yeshiva and Rav in Szendro and dozens of villages nearby. In the year 1930, after the passing of his father-in-law Rabbi Shimon Zusman Sofer he replaced him as Rav in Paks, as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in the Yeshiva there. Rabbi Shimshon, his wife and many family members and members of his community as well perished sanctifying G-d’s name on the 17th of Tamuz 1944.
