Sefer ‘Eyin Yaakov’ on Tractate Nashim, Lemberg 1860. Personal copy of the Holy Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald, Rav of Satmar and from great scholars of Hungary. His signature appears on the title page.

The Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald (1848-1920) from the great scholars and sages of Hungary in the generation prior to the Holocaust. Disciple of great Rabbanim of Hungary: the Gaon Rabbi David Fischer of Piešťany, the Gaon Rabbi Aron David Deutch author of ‘Goren David’, and the Gaon the Ketav Sofer, during the time he learned in Yeshivot of Hungary, he used to give his friends the money that his father (the wealthy Rabbi Yoshua Falek) sent him and himself was satisfied with a piece of bread and water. His Rabbi the Ketav Sofer who cherished him a lot proposed the daughter of his brother Rabbi Yosfa Sofer (the third son of the Moron Chatam Sofer). Rabbi Yehuda served as Rav in several communities until in the year 1898 he was appointed as Rav of Satmar. There he founded the Yeshiva which was the largest in the area. Before he gave over his lesson to his students he used to learn with them a little mussor from the sefer ‘Pele Yoetz’ or ‘Chovat HaLevavot’ as was the custom of his grandfather the ‘Chatam Sofer’. Many of his thousands of disciples served as Rabbanim and Dayanim. Some of his sefarim left today are: ‘Shut Zichron Yehuda’, ‘Chasdei Avot’ on Tractate  Avot, and ‘Ollelut Yehuda’ on Tehilim.
