The answer was written by the scribe of Rabbi Chaim Shabtai, and at the end of the response Rabbi Chaim Shabtai signed him self his holy signature. Attached to this item are certificates from the renowned professionals Rabbi Yitzchak Yeshaya Weis and Rabbi Shimon Schwartz, both certify that this is the signature of the author. To the side of the response is added a hand written notation.
Rabbi Chaim Shabtai – MahrChaSh (1557-1647), great Rabbi of Saloniki, and from great poskim of his generation. He was a disciple of Rabbi Eliyahu Sasson, Rabbi Samuel de Medina (Mahrshdam) and Rabbi Shlomo HaKohen (mahrshach). From the year 1594 he served as dayan in the Beit Medrash of Rabbi Aharon Sasson. From 1605 served as Rosh Yeshivat ‘Kehilat Shalom’ in Saloniki and established many students. From 1638 he served as Chief Rabbi of Saloniki. Conversed in Halachah with great scholars of his generation, and some of his responses were published in his sefer Shut ‘Toraht Chaim’. He left after him manuscripts of sermons, Sifrei Halacha and innovations on Tractates in Shas. A big part of them were lost over the years.
