Two letters from the Gaon and Chassid Rabbi Shemaryahu GourAry, eldest son-in-law of the Holy Rebbe Rayatz (Rebbe Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson) of Lubavitch, chairman of Executive Committee and leader of Mercaz HaYeshivot Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch of United States and Canada, known among the Chassidim as ‘Harshag’ eldest brother-in-law of the later Rebbe of Lubavitch. The letters were written in the year of the passing of his Rabbi and father-in-law Rebbe Rayatz, when the Rabbi has not yet been succeeded, and it was assumed that the Rashag will become the Rabbi of Lubavitch.

The first letter, was written the ‘Yom HaMeyuchas’, 2nd day of Sivan 1950, on a special letter head of the Rashag, ‘Chairman of Executive Committee United Lubavitch Yeshivoth of the United States and Canada’, in it the Rashag request from HaRav Hevlin to prepare Tefillin for him according to the Shimusha-Raba and the Rabbad and send it to him in the United States, and is signed by the Rashag.

The second letter, lengthy and filled with his holy blessing, was sent in the same year, 25th day of Elul 1950, on a private sheet with official letterhead, thanks him abundantly for the Etrog he sent to him, and requesting to hasten the Tefillin.
