Manuscript of Rabbi Pinchas Englander, to his community, in which due to pressure from higher authorities, he withdraws his verdict prohibiting a Kohen to ‘dichen’ after publicly shaming a Rav.

Letter’s contents: The Rav informs his community about the verdict prohibiting for Shimshon Kohen to ‘dichen’ which he nullifies: לכבוד השר הגדול האדון , וויציג שפאהן שיחי’, והאדון הנכבד הער פאהן שאנקאיי". Though he stresses his level of principle remains for punishing one who shames a Rav in public, "דמין הדין אינו ראוי לא להיות כהן עד זמן שקבע לו רבינו שיחי’, מחמת מעשה שעשה כידוע מן העדים… וכן לא יעשה בישראל".

Rabbi PInchas son of Rabbi Shamuel Englander born in the city of Wysokie Litewskie. Went to live in Germany, and about 1790 left to England and then moved to Hungary. Served a s Rav and lecturer in Berlin, London, and Shimanda. Author of sefarim ‘Kinatei D’Pinchas’ (Berlin 1781), ‘Midrash Pinchas’ (London 1795), ‘Me’il HaAifod’written (1821-1824) manuscript form.

This manuscript was found between the manuscripts of the sefer ‘Me’il HaAifod’, and is similar to the handwriting of Rabbi Pinchasa Englander.

Light stains. Good -very good condition.
