Shulchan Aruch Choshen Mishpat, with commentary ‘Baer Heitev’. Amsterdam 1746. Personal copy from the great gaon originator of the Mussar movement and great Jerusalem scholar Rabbi Yosef Zundel of Salant.
Many editing personally hand written by Rabbi Yisrael Zundel are found among the pages, some short corrections and some lengthy intellectual editing.A lengthy editing appears on page 107 about: הלוואה בבע"ד שטוען הילך. Notice on the margins of pages ‘מ’ and ‘נ’ is an added caption ‘מנחם ציון’ [- Menachem Tzion] (as the page number is part of the wording). Menachem Tzion was a Beit Medrash in Churvat Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid in Jerusalem of which Rabbi Yosef Zundel was in charge of the sefarim library there.

The Gaon Rabbi Yosef Zundel of Salant (1786-1865), from the great scholars of Jerusalem. In his youth he learned by Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin revered disciple of the holy Gra. After he married he lived in Salant were he worked to earn a livelihood but his main occupation was learning Torah. There Rabbi Yisrael Lipkin (later the founder of the mussar movement) met him, Rabbi Yisrael was deeply impressed and held him as his revered Rabbi. After the passing of the holy Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, Rabbi Yosef Zindel connected to Rabbi Akiva Eiger, traveling to Posna to receive guidance in learning and Avodat Hashem. In 1838 immigrated to Israel and was appointed as dayan in the Ashkenazi community of Jerusalem (could not afford a Rav due to small populace). He passed away on the 3rd of Cheshvon at the age of 79 years at the time of the cholera epidemic. His son-in-law Rabbi Shamuel Salant was appointed after him and served as Rav for dozens of years.
