Letter from Rabbi Moshe Pardo to the Rishon LeTziyon Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, when he was then head of the beth din in Jerusalem.

The Gaon Rabbi Moshe Pardo (1810-1888), born in Jerusalem to his father Rabbi Refael David, descendant of Rabbi David Pardo and his Mechutan the Holy Chida. He learned out of poverty in the Yeshiva of ‘Chesed L’Avraham U’Binyan Shlomo’, together with his associates Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, Rabbi Efrayim Navon, and Rabbi Eliyahu Mehudar. For many years he served as Dayan in the Beit Din of Rabbi Aharon Ezrial and Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi. In the year 1867 Rabbi Moshe Pardo was appointed as Ravd of the Sefardic community in Jerusalem. In 1870 he was sent to North Africa as fundraiser for Sefardi Kollelim. On his way back he stopped in Alexandria and he accepted an offer to serve as the rabbi of the Jewish community there, a position he held until his death. Passed away on 16th of Av 1888 and was buried in Alexandria. Authored sefarim ‘Tzedek UMishpat’, ‘Hora’ah D’Beit Din’, Shut ‘Shemo Moshe’, annotations on the sefer ‘Chasdei David’ and disputations on sefer ‘Aim L’Mikra’.
Letters contents: Rabbi Moshe reports about ordering valuable and fine Tallis to the recipient of the letter, the ‘Yisa Bracha’ and for the Chief Rabbi [Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi]. In response to the complaint of the Yisa Bracha on the many titles referred to him, Rabbi Moshe requests an apology and informs him what the titles he will refer when mentioning Rav Elyashar. He also writes about his difficulties in raising funds as a fundraiser due to the difficult time. "וקיותי שבכפרים יהיה לי הצלחה רבה ולא מצאתי אפי’ לשליש ולרביע וחומש משד"ר שקדמני". He finishes the letter in reference to the titles written to him and prayers to serve G-d wholesomely. "העיקר שה’ יזכנו לעובדו באמת בלבב שלם, ואדע ערכי הפחות, כדי לעשות רצונו ית’ שמו ולתקן נר"ן בעהי"ת שמו לחיים טובים ולשלום".
