A letter from 1855 by R. Meir Buxbaum on behalf of the residents of Lashberin. An addition handwritten and signed on the margins of the letter, by Rabbi Shimon Winner Abd of Lashberin and its environs.
[1] leaf, written on both its sides, 19X25 cm. Including a Yiddish letter by R. Meir Buxbaum, with [10] lines by his nephew Rabbi Shimon Winner in Hebrew.
The content of the letter: In this letter, Rabbi Shimon Winner asks the philanthropist to support his uncle, R. Meir Buxbaum "whose eye dimmed and natural force abated … and he is incapable of leaving his town to earn a living for his family … may he not seal his ear to his uncle’s cry and may he be among the relatives that spread their wings one upon his brother". He notes that the support from the charity fund is insufficient due to the cost of living and asks the philanthropist to recruit his relatives for this important Mitzvah.
Rabbi Shimon Winner [1769-1871] Abd of Lashberin and the environs was born in Mattersdorf. A disciple of Rabbi Yissachar Ber Bloch Abd of Mattersdorf, Rabbi Mordechai Benet Abd of Nikolsburg and with the arrival of the "Chasam Sofer" from Mehrin to Mattersdorf, he was one of his first disciples in Hungary and his Gabai. In 1814 he served as Abd of Szent-Grót and several years later, as Abd of Lashberin until his passing at a very old age. His sons were also disciples of the "Chasam Sofer" and the "Ketav Sofer". Some of his innovations were published as well as his last will and testament in the compilation "Michtav Tzava’ah".
