Shomrei Shabbat societies were established in many cities and towns due to laxity in Sabbath observance. These societies dealt with supporting Sabbath observance among the public in general and among youth, workers and merchants in particular, by organizing the study of the laws of the Sabbath and its virtue, organizing Torah lessons and prayers on Sabbath, publications for encouraging Sabbath observance and supervision of its observance in the public space.
* Stamp with two words in a circle: "For Passover" which was used for marking Kosher for Passover products.
