During the time he was Rav, he took care of the needy. During this time he also turned down the offer to serve as Rav of Warsaw.  After eighteen years, he moved to served as Rav of Mir. Later he was called by Rabbi Shmuel Salant to immigrate to the Holy Land and settle in Jerusalem to serve as his assistant and becoming Rav after his passing.
