The Enriching Segulah of the Ketores! Tobacco ‘Cigar’ Received from the Holy Hands of the Holy Rabbi the Beis Yisrael of Gur at a Time of Joy.
The importance and virtue of smoking is common knowledge among the Hassidim, especially by great Hassidic rabbis.
Many Tzaddikim, to this day, resolve complicated and difficlut problems which a cloud of smoke above their head. Other Tzaddikim used to smoke once a year, at the Purim table for instance. There were Tzaddikim, especially in recent generations when the danger of smoking became clear, who refrained from smoking and even asked their Hassidim to refrain from smoking; however it is known and accepted that Avodat Hashem of the Tzaddikim themselves was by smoking a cigarette, a kind of Avodat Haketores.
The Holy Rabbi the Beis Yisrael of Gur used to smoke regulalry, usually a cigar, and often would give his closest Hassidim and those around him cigars for blessing and as a token of friendship. Who knows the underlying secrets, yet the Hassidim saw these cigars as a Segulah for protection and blessing. Occasionally, the Beis Yisrael would scold the receiver for hiding the cigar to be preserved and specifically demand that it be used for smoking or it would be given to someone else.
This cigar was received by the holy hands of the Beis Yisrael, in a time of joy, during the wedding of the grandson of his grandfather the Holy Rabbi the Sefas Emes of Gur, in which Moron the Beis Yisrael was a participant. Towards its end, he handed out cigars to those around him, as a token of joy and friendship and as said, it is customary among the Hassidim that the cigars are a Segulah for protection, like other artifacts of Tzaddikim, especially in face of the significance of smoking exalted by the Tzaddikim.
Slightly crumbling at its head. Placed in a plastic pipe from the period. Good condition.
