A document containing the decision of Rabbi Yissacher Ber and the leaders of the Nitra community to punish a man who publicly insulted a deceased man and said forbidden things in the synagogue, and their decision to bring him back later, after he had repented. Nitra [1794-17979].
[1] page, 20X31 cm. [21] handwritten lines, signed by the Abd Rabbi Yissacher Ber and the Shochet and Bodek Feisch Monk, from Tamuz [1794]. Below [4] lines, on behalf of the Abd and Shochet and Bodek, handwritten and signed by the Shochet and Bodek.
The content of the document: "Today when the leaders of the community have gathered … jointly with the Abd regarding K. Bonim Pihem who did deeds which are against our Torah and against the honor of the community by publicly insulting in the synagogue those who dwell in the dust … that aforementioned Bonim is required to go to the cemetery with two Torah scholars and the son of the aforementioned deceased and ask his forgiveness … for the next three years the aforementioned will have no rights in the community … and if he refuses, he will be forced to … Thursday 6 Shevat [1794]". Then it is written: "After K. Bonim pleaded with the leaders of the community and stated that he said the things in anger and since he reconciled himself to his punishment, they forgave him. Today Monday 15 Tamuz 1797 with the Rabbi Abd and Feisch Monk Shochet and Bodek".
Rabbi Yissacher Ber of Nitra, a letter by him was presented in the Shu"t Maharnash chapter 163. "Rabbi Yissacher Ber" was included in a list of the disciples of Rabbi Yehonatan Eibshitz, in the sefer Gedulat Yehonatan, 2, p. 276.
