Touching letter of request for economic assitance from the heads of the ‘Ezrat Torah’ committee in New York by the Gaon Rabbi Yisroel David Halevi Epstein the Son the Holy Admor Rabbi Shlomo of Ozharov. Stoczek, 1929.
In the letter, Rabbi Yisroel David appeals to the managers of the chrity fund with a request for economic support: "All winter … I have not eaten even a crumb of black bread except on Sabbath and during the entire days of the week, we settle for potatos, and this too sparingly".
Printed on verso of the postcard is the esteemed pedigree of Rabbi Yisroel David: the son of the Holy Rav Rabbi Leibish of Ozharov, the son of the Holy Rav Rabbi Yechiel Chaim the son of the Holy Rav Rabbi Leibish of Apali, and so forth up to the Holy Shela. Rabbi Yisroel served as a Rav in Ostrovatza and edited the Sefer ‘Sha’arei Chochman’ – Ozharov, 1924.
