Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Asher Anschil Katz Av Beis Din of Serdaheli to the Holy Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Zanvil Kahana on the matter if releasing a Jew from the army.
In the letter, the Holy Gaon Rabbi Asher Anschil Katz lobbies for a Jew (Rabbi Yechiel David Perlener) who was forcibly recruited into the army "since we failed to obtain an exemption certificate for him called "Tanishitvany" by the Education Minister".
The Holy Gaon Rabbi Asher Anschil Katz Av Beis Din of Serdaheli and one of the greatest rabbis of Hungary (1880-1944) was born in Tshenger to Rabbi Yonosn Binyomin. In his youth, he studied Torah with the author of Arugos HaBosem. At a young age married the daughter of the Holy Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich of Shamloy. At first he held positions of teacher and Rav in Shamloy until he was appointed Rav of Serdaheli, where he led the community until the Nazi occupation of Hungary. Rabbi Asher Anschil died on KIddush Hashem with the members of his community in Auschwitz.
