The controversy in Sadigura! An early handwritten copying of a letter by the Holy Rav Dov Ber of Liava during the terrible controversy, confirmed and upheld by the signature of the two Dayanim of Sadigura.

Important rabbinic manuscript, contemporary, which presumably was used by the Chassidim of Sadigura to be distributed to the masses.

Short background: The Holy Rav Rabbi Dov Ber Friedman the son of Moron the Holy Rav Aterest Tiferes Yisroel of Ruzhin published an open letter in 1869, a letter which was the onset of a most intense controversy that involved hundreds of rabbis and dignitaries. At the head of the disputers stood the Holy Rav Moron the Divrei Chaim of Sanz and against him stood the Holy Rav Moron Rabbi Avraham Yaakov of Sadigura. The echoes of this terrible dispute, to this day. Kevod Elokim Haster Davar … VeLev Melachim Ein Cheker.

Before us, a large sheet, on which is written, in dense, impressive rabbinic script which was obviously written during the polemic and dispute, a copy of a broadside that was published by the Chernowitz printing house in 1869. In this broadside the Holy Rav of Liava states and refutes the rumors that spread subsequent to the his first letter.

The broadside opens with a meaningful title "Panu Derech Solu Solu HaMessilah Saklu MeEven Harimu Kol HaEmes" and then he recounts his major statements and method. He signs: The words of he who moans and sighs due to the unloyal ravages of time, who yearns for Hashem’s salvation … the seventh of Tamuz VeRav LeHoshi’ah here is Sadigura. Dov Ber ben Rabbi Yisroel.

This open letter is confirmed and upheld by the Dayanaim the Geonim Rabbi Yuda Leibush Landau Av Beis Din of Sadigura and Rabbi Yechiel Michl Tiovish Domatz of Sadogura, who end hinting ‘VeRa’u kol Amei HaAretz ki Shem Hashem Nikra Alav’.

Before us is a handwritten remnant from the period, from a terrible, intense controversy, which lasted for long years and did not abate many years afterwards.
