Fascinating! Ledger of Moron Posek Hador the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, in which he wrote with the Rebbetzen all his expenses and income, debts and money he received and various payments. Jerusalem, 1937-1939.
‘Betzalt far vaser 80 piaster‘ [we paid for water 80 Agorot on Parashat Vayigash] ‘Betzalt Sukkot tzeit far vaser etlichan 30 piester‘ . And so on, in this manner, are listed all the expenses and income of Moron the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and his wife the Rebbetzen.
Some of the ledger was handwritten by the Rebbetzen Mrs. Sheina Chaya the daughter of the Jerusalemite Tzaddik the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Levin. The ledger lists, in the handwriting of Moron Rabbi Yosef Shalom and the Rebbetzen, debts the Rav and the Rebbetzen owed others and debts that others owed them and additional matters. The ledger enables a peek into the long-gone past of Jerusalem. It refers to many names of renowned personalities of the city (R. Chaim Mikirei Dardakei, R. Katriel Chasman, "The Chazan of Stroik", R. Yitzchak Shpigelman, R. Avraham Broida, R. Yosef Steinberg, and more).
9 written leaves, 14 cm. Some of the leaves are densly written, the others are blank, slightly detached binding, good-very good general condition.
