Letter of blessing to the "Yissa Beracha" with his appointment as the Rishon LeZion, by R. Chaim Heschel Harkavi. [Jerusalem, 1893].
"I shall bless him that peace will blossom in his time and the Sephardim will unite with the Ashkenazim a true unity by which we could hope that He will build Zion our holy city, which was destroyed only due to disputes and will surely be built due to peace". A letter of blessing by Chaim Heschel Harkavi to Chacham Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, the "Yissah Beracha", with his appointment as the Rishon LeZion. [Jerusalem, 1893].
[1] leaf, written on both its sides, 21 cm. Handwriting, with the writer’s signature "Chaim Heschel Baharav R. Yaakov Ish yerushalayim Harkavi". His father who was a rich merchant and an important Talmid Chacham from Russia immigrated with his family from Russia to Jerusalem in the mid-19th century. In Jerusalem, he served as a Ram at the Etz Chaim Yeshiva for more than 40 years. R. Chaim Heschel’s brother was the historian and Orientalist Avraham Eliyahu Harkavi, one of the heads of the "Mekitzei Nirdamim" company. The letter before us, which was written about two years after the "Negev Riots", indicates the writer’s concern for the Jews of Russia, who were suffering greatly under the regime of the Tzar.
Tears, fold marks, fair condition.
