Copyings of Sugiyyot from Tractate Baba Metziah, with Rashi’s commentary and Tosfos, with the stamp of the Dayan Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Levin.
"Shilat. Copying from 1897". Leaf of copying of Sugiyyot from Tractate Baba Metizah with Mefarshim, with the stamp of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Levin.
[1] leaf. 14 cm. With stamps "שלמה זלמן בהרי"ל לעווין בירושלים ת"ו".
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Levin (1834-1884) the son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Maggid of Shklov and Dayan of Jerusalem. Rabbi Shlomo Zalman’s father, Rabbi Yaakov Leib Levi, was Av Beis Din of Shleshin and Rosh Av beis Din of Jerusalem.
Comment: It seemed that the leaf before us was written in 1897 and later stamped by Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Levin. However, since Rabbi Shlomo Zalman ben Rabbi Yaakov leib Levin passed away before 1897, it is impossible. Possibly, the laef was stamped with Rabbi Levin’s stamp years after his passing, or the writer used a leaf that was already stamped with Rabbi Levin’s stamp. In addition, it is also possible that the writing of the leaf was done earlier and the notation "copying from 1897" does not refer to the year it was copied. This riddle is yet to be solved.
Stains. fold marks, good condition.
