A letter of support and recommendation by the author of ‘Zichron Yehuda’ the holy Gaon Rabbi Yuda Greenwald of Satmar, witten entirely by his holy hand and signed by him. To his disciple ‘Hai Gavra of Yakirei Jerusalem my beloved and favorite disciple the great Rav and Chassid of many charities and good deeds … Meir Eichler … who in his youth was the Meshamesh of the Great rabbis of Menanash and Hust … and after writing at length about his studies at the yeshiva and his immigration to the Holy Land and his leaving it following the doctores’ orders – the Mahari Greenwald of Satmar blesses ‘Be strong and of good courage to benefit and be lenient with the above Rav and blessed be he who merits to support him, of himself and by his efforts he will be blessed with life of blessing and peace‘.
In the lengthy letter, the Holy Gaon of Satmar greatly praises the virtue of his dear disciple Rabbi Meir Eichler, the father of the glorious Eichler family and additional renowned families such as Porush and Steinberg. Was his great disicple for many years and earlier, a disciple of the Holy Gaon Av Beis Din of Nanash, who immmigrated to the Holy Land and eventually left it following the doctors’ orders.
The Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yehuda [Yuda] Greenwald Av Beis Din of Satmar and its Rosh Yeshiva [1848-1920] one of the greatest Tzaddikim of Hungary, a disciple of the author of ‘Goren David’ and a favorite disciple of Maran the Chasam Sofer and the son-in-law of his brother Rabbi Josefa Sofer. Served as Rav in several important cities, headed by Satmar where he established his famous yeshiva which at its height was one of the largest and most important yeshivas in Hungary. Many of his disciples were Poskim in Hungary, including the Holy Gaon Rabbi Yosef Nechemya Kornitzer Av Beis Din of Krakow, Rabbi Shemaya Lau Av Beis Din of Kersetir and many more. He brought the young Avrech in his city closer, the future Holy Rav Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, who replaced him as leader of the town and its orthodox community.
[1] leaf official stationery with a letterhead. 23X15 cm. 18 lines along the leaf written by his holy hand and with his signature and stamp. The stamp is quite faded. Fold mark with wear in the center. Aging and dampness stains. Good-very good condition.
