A mighty letter with Torah innovations by Maran Posek Hador Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv to his in-law Maran the Steipler, including reference to the setting of the date of the wedding of Maran Rabbi Chaim Kanievski and the pious Rebbetzen. Jerusalem, 1951.
To my close friend the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel Kanievski peace and blessings. His letter with his wonderful gift his important Seforim ‘Kehilos Yaakov’ Sifrei Dvei Rav has been received by me. And I hereby express my gratitude however I have many things on my mind and no time to expand on any of the many matters so when I can I will study them. For now I am responding to his pleasant letter.
Here there is a wonderful exapnsion on matters of Tractate Pesachim and Suggiyot of Ibur Tzura in Kevuras Kodashim and Shemiras Kodashim.
Later, he addresses various matters with sharpness and knowledge, delving into the words of Maran the Gaon the Steipler which were written in his letter. On both sides of the leaf.
The letter was written initially in eloquent orderly script; yet later, Maran the Gaon Rabbi Elyashiv changed his mind and designated it as a draft. Therefore, he added above the lines on the second page two important sentences on the upcoming wedding of the members of the two glorious families:
‘ואחרי ההזמנה עד שיגמר…מזמן ההזמנה עד שיגמרו לי יקח זמן של ארבעה חדשים…’
Thus, before us is an implicit reference to the mindset regarding the setting of the date of the wedding of Maran’s son, who will eventually light up the eyes of Yisroel with his Torah and holiness, and the daughter of Maran Posek Hador and its leader, the renowned pious Rebbetzen.
