Pedigreed copy! Divrei Chaim Shut by the Holy Rav of Sanz, first edition, Lvov, 1875. The personal copy with the handwritten signature of the Dayan of Papa the Holy Gaon Rabbi Moshe Yosef Hoffman.
The holy Sefer Divrei Chaim which was published during its author’s lifetime (and shortly before his passing), first edition.
Appearing on the title page is an onwership stamp of the Holy Gaon and an ownership notation by his holy hand: "שייך לי הק’ משה יוסף במהר"מ דן אב"ד בק"ק פאפא יע"א וכעת מתושבי ירושלים עיה"ק תובב"א".
An additional ownership stamp of "בית המדרש חתם סופר בשכונת אונגארן בעיה"ק ירושלים".
The Holy Gaon Rabbi Moshe Yosef Hoffman "The Dayan of Papa" [1843-1928], his rabbis said that he was a Kaddosh Merachem who was recongized by his holiness his entire life. He received his Semicha by his great Rav the Mahari Assad, serving as Rosh Yeshiva in his city of Serdahely. Since 1882 until 1906 he served as Dayan and Moreh Tzeddek in Papa and in 1906 immigrated to the Holy land, living in Jerusalem and studying Torah in the Beis Midrash of the Basei Ungarin neighborhood. He used to sit all day with his Tefillin and write hundreds and thousands of leaves with Torah innovations, which were kept in the attic of the synagogue and they disappeared from there. His great diligence and piety were wonderous. gaon in Nigleh and Nistar. A modest man who merited seeing Eliyahu. A miracle-worker.
Once, one of the disciples of the Holy Rav Yehoshua Buxbaum Av Beis Din of Galanta sked: Did his holy Rav Rabbi Moshe Yosef the Dayan of Papa have Ruach HaKodesh? and was answered: I have no knowledge of him having RuachHaKodesh but I know for a fact that he saw Eliyahu HaNavih.
