The holy gaon Rabbi Nosson HaKohen Adler, already in his childhood was known as clever and full of unique talents, conducted himself with holiness and discretion. The holy Chida expressed on him the verse: "הנה נא ידעתי כי איש אלקים קדוש הוא עובר עלינו תמיד". He was the disciple of the ‘Pnei Yehoshua’ and Rabbi Moshe Rap of Frankfurt. His essential Rabbi was Rabbi David Tevele Katz Schiff who later became Ashkenazi Rabbi of London. Learned Kabbalah by Rabbi Avraham Abish who was Rav in his city.
Was the Rabbi of the holy ‘Chatam Sofer’, who called him: ‘החסיד שבכהונה’, because of his Chassidut and holiness, he was also called him the "Kohen" (and so his second Rabbi the ‘Haflaha’a’ he called the "Levi"). The Chatam Sofer would often bring the words of his Rabbi in Halacha and Agada. When his Rabbi passed away he eulogized him sprawled on the ground.Once when he saw his son write on his Rabbi "Angel of G-d", the Chatam Sofer said: "My Rabbi was no angel, he was more than an angel on the level of : ותחסרהו מעט מאלקים". He also told once to his son that Rabbi Nosson knew what was going in the the heavens more than the actual angels.
He lived all his life in with much sorrow on the destruction of Jerusalem and exile. This was obvious by his constant grieving, even during times of joy and Holidays he used to bring up and express his remembrance of the destruction and decrease from the complete joy. He was the first who permitted to change over from Ashkenaz to Sefaradim wording (nussach) which is closer to the Ari’s nussach, in order to concentrate the intentions of the holy Ari, having no doubt about the matter of "אל תיטוש תורת אימך". He also had a tradition for Kohanim to bless the ‘Birkat Kohanim every day as in Israel, changing from the conduct accepted in Ashkenaz. Was a holy Mekubbal and miracle worker, and the Chatam Sofer testified on him that he saw with his own eyes that he used and did actions with Shaimot (holy names). In the ears of his students he testified that his Rabbi also was able to do wonders and miracles with no holy names like Kefitzat HaDerech (shortening the road).
