Receipt given to the Maharil Diskin for his donation to a Retirement Home. [Jerusalem], the 13th of Adar [1896].
"On the 13th of Shevat 1896, the Retirement Home received by the Rav the Tzaddik Gaon Maharil Diskin Shalita 23 Grush". A printed receipt, filled-in by hand, issued for the Maharil Diskin for his donation to the Jerusalemite Retriement Home "Beis Moshav Zekenim VeZekenos".

Background: In the mid-19th century, the Jewish physician from Australia, Sr. Sanders, founded in the Old City of Jerusalem a soup kitchen for the elderly Jews of Jerusalem. This small institution developed with the assistance of Rabbi Yisroel Dov Frumkin, Rabbi Yechiel Michl Pines, Rabbi Isaac ben Tovim and Rabbi Avraham Elkana Sachs to become the Beis Moshav Zekenim VeZekenos" [Ashkenaizc].
The Gaon Rav Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua Yehuda Leib [Maharil] Diskin (1818-1898), "The Rav of Brisk", served as Rav in the communities of Meindzizch Podlaski, Kovno, Lomzha, Minsk, Shklov and Brisk. In 1877, he immigrated to Jerusalem amd became one of its greatest rabbis and leaders of the ‘Prushim’ of the old Yishuv in Jerusalem. Founded the Diskin Orphanage and the Ohel Moshe Yeshiva which he headed.
Stain and folds to the corners of the leaf, a small perforation in the lower part of the leaf, not affecting the text, good condition.
