Handwritten signature of the Maggid Meisharim the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Aharon Rappaport of Jerusalem on the distribution of funds by the Rav of Jerusalem the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Salant. Jerusalem, 1890.
In the receipt, the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Rappaport states that he received by the Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Salant an amount of one Dollar that was sent from the philanthropist Mrs. Leah Rosenblat of Cleveland. The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Salant was in charge of the distribution of funds that were sent from Jewish philanthropists in the Diaspora to the members of the old Yishuv in the Holy Land. On the margins of the document, the Gaon Rabbi Chaim added: :May its source be blesses since due to my weakness it has been forgotten by me … the above".
The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Yitzchak Aharon Rappaport (1809-1911) was born in Slonim and was a Maggid Meisharim in the Eišiškės and Vilkomir communities. In 1884, he immigrated to the Holy Land and settled in Jerusalem. Rabbi Chaim said of himself that throughout his life he suffered great pains and suffering. He merited longevity and passed away at the age of a hundred and two. Authored the compositions: Einei Yitzchak, Zekan Aharon, Chessed VeEmes, Ma’amar Kaddishin and many more. His Seforim were favorite with the sages of his generation and were widely distributed.
