Printed on the receipt: "I have received from the Rav Rabbi Shmuel Salant Shalita in Jerusalem …" The receipt is for a sum of one Ruble that was sent by Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Sokolevsky of Spotzkin. The receipt is signed by the Holy Gaon Rabbi Moshe Kliers and by the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Matisyahu Sandberg. Appearing on the receipt is also the sramp of Rabbi David ben R.Y. Abenberg [?] of Warsaw.
Before us is testimony of the distribution of funds that were sent from the Diaspora to the members of the old Yishuv, which Rabbi Shmuel Salant was in charge of. The receipt was given for a donation to the Or Torah Yeshiva in Tiberius and the yeshiva’s stamp appears on the back of the document.
The Holy Gaon Rabbi Moshe Kliers (1876-1934) one of the Geonim and Tzaddikim of the generation, the Chief Rabbi of Tiberius since 1909. Established the great ‘Or Torah’ yeshiva which had legions of Talmidei Chachamim, Marbitzei Torah and Hora’ah. He was renowned as one of the leaders of the generation who worked for Agudas Yisroel. He firmly acted against the National Council and the constant attempts of the Zionist circles to gain control over the Jews of Eretz Yisroel.
The great Chassid Rabbi Yitzchak Matisyahu Sandberg, one of the greatest Chassidim of Lechovitz-Kobrin Slonim, the grandson, the son of the daughter of the Holy Rav the ‘Yessod HaAvodah’ of Slonim. One of the glorious figures of Tiberius and one of the leaders of its Chassidim as well as one of the founders and managers of the Or Torah Yeshiva.
