A friend closer than a brother. Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib Bakst on eof the greatest of America to his friend from their days at the Mir Yeshiva with words of support and encouragement. 1950s or 1960s.
In the letter to his close friend from the time they studied at the Mir Yeshiva (and later in Shanghai) Rabbi Shmuel David Tirosh, the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib gently and sensitively tells his friend that he managed to obtain an amount of money for anyone who needs it and immediately thought of him since he knows of the difficult situation in Eretz Yidroel "ומי כמוני יודע ערכו הרם ואשר מה אוכל לעזרו בזה, בכ"ז חשבתי יהי’ מה. ואקווה להשי"ת כי עוד ירחיב עוד גבולו וימצא עוד מקומו כמאמרם במקומך יושיבוך".
The Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib Bakst (1915-2004) one of the important Talmidei Chachamim and Marbitzei Torah in America. Was born to his father Rabbi Yaakov Yehoshua the Rav of Deititz who was close to the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski. From a young age was known as an Iluy. Rabbi Aryeh Leib studied at the yeshiva of Rabbi Yaakov Neuman in Lida and after a while, on the advice of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Ozer moved to study at the Mir Yeshiva, where he became close to his rabbis the Gaon Rabbi Finkel the Rosh Yeshiva and its spiritual managers Rabbi Yerucham Leibowitz and rabbi Yechezkel Levinstein. In the years of fury he wandred with his friend the student of the Mir Yeshiva to Japan and then to Shanghai where he married his wife the Rebbetzen the daughter of Rabbi Mordechai Rogov, Rosh Av Beis Din of Tieni of the family of the Gaon Rabbi Baruch Ber Leibowitz. Rabbi Aryeh Leib immigrated to the USA, settling in Detroit where he established a yeshiva with many students.
