Guarding the education of the Teheran Children! Uncompromising polemic letter concerning the battle against the Jewish Agency by the Gaon Rabbi Zvi Chaim Popkin one of the greatest rabbis of America, New Bedford, 1943.
In the letter, the Gaon Rabbi Zvi Chaim Pokin vigorously protests the educational activity of the Jewish Agency amongst the war refugees, and especially due to the scandal of the Teheran Children, Holocaust survivors who survived and immigrated via Persia-Iran. About the fear of attracting and tempting these youngsters with their adeas: "to capture the children of Bnei Yisroel some of whom remained fatherless and motherless and proselytize them drown them in the mud of heresy and lawlessness and those who survived the enemy, the sword, the plague, and the hunger shall fall in the hands of educators and become victims of the sword of heresy…"
Later in the letter, he vigorously protests the contempt for Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog the Chief Rabbi of Israel by the Jewish Agency and the National Council and suggests that a supreme rabbinic committee be established for all matters of education and especially the education of the youth.
The Gaon Rabbi Zvi Chaim Popkin, one of the greatest rabbis of America, Was born in Lida and studied Tprah with the greatest rabbis of his generation Rabbi Yehuda Itzkowitz Ram of the Slonim Yeshiva and author of Pnei Yehuda and more. Rabbi Zvi Chaim also studied at the Romeiles Yeshiva in Vilna. He received his Hora’ah Semicha by the greatest rabbis of his generation Rabbi Shlomo Hacohen author of the Cheshel Shlomo of Vilna and the Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Yaakov Reines. In 1900, he immigrated to the USA and soon became renowned. For several years, he served as Rav in New Bedford Massachusetts and since 1908, served as Rav in Utica, New York.
