The author Rabbi Yaakov Yokev Ettlinger (1798-1871), one of the greatest rabbis of Ashkenaz in his generation. Studied with the greatest rabbis of Ashkenaz such as Rabbi Asher the son of the Sheagas Aryeh, Tabbi Avraham Bing and Rabbi Avraham Binyamin Ze’ev Hamburg (author of Sha’ar Zekenim). Rabbi Yaakov was one of the first orthodox rabbis who was also an academic as a student of the Würzburg University. Served as a Rav in many communities of Ashkenaz.
