Letter of condolences by the rabbis and managers of the Or TOrah Yeshiva in Tiberius including the holy Admor author of Birkas Avraham of Slonim to the family of the Jerusalemite activist Rabbi Ze’ev Shachor, Tiberius, 1941.
In the letter, the rabbis console the family of the activist Rabbi Ze’ev Shachor: "זכות צדקתו ופעולתו הגדולה לחזוק התורה ולומדי’ תאיר לנשמתו הטהורה בעולם הנצחי…". Rabbi Ze’ev Shachor (1869-1941) was a pioneer of Pharmaceutics in renewing Jerusalem and one of its activists who supported the establishment of yeshivas and soup kitchens in the city (among others, he worked for purcasing the plot on which the Etz Chaim Yeshiva was built).
The letter is signed by the heads and managers of the yeshiva the holy Admor author of Birkas Avraham of Slonim – before he was appointed Admor, and the brothers-in-law: the Rav of Tiberius Rabbi Asher Ze’ev Werner (with a stamp in the form of his handwriting) and Rabbi Pinchas Mintzberg, an important Slonim Chassid inthe town.
The holy Admor Rabbi Avraham Weinberg of Slonim (1888-1981), one of the greatest Admorim in Eretz Yisroel in his generation and a member of Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudas Yisroel. For many years lived in Tiberius, where he served as a member of the city council and as the head of Agudas Yisroel. In 1955, was appointed Admor and in 1960 moved to Jerusalem. In his youth, he was sent by his uncle the Divrei Shmuel to meet Gedolei Yisroel: Maran the Chofetz Chaim, Rabbi Chaim of Brisk and the holy Rav Rabbi Yisroel of Chortkov.
Rabbi Asher Ze’ev Werner (1894-1957) the Rav of Tiberius. was born in Jerusalem to Rabbi Simcha Bonim Dayan of the Beis Din of HaEdah HaCharedis. Studied at the Etz Chaim Yeshiva. Married the daughter of Rabbi Yitzchak Manisyahu Sandberg (the grandson of Yessod HaAvodah) and therefore moved to Tiberius and studied at the Or Torah Yeshiva with his uncle. After he was widowed, he married the daughter of Rabbi Aharon Yosef Luria, an important Slonim Chassid. Rabbi Asher recieved his rabbinic Semicha by the Rav of the city the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Kliers, whom he succeeded as the Rav of the city. He also served as a member of Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudas Yisroel
The Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Pinchas Mintzberg, an important Slonim Chassid in Tiberius and one of the heads of the Or Torah Yeshiva in the town. Served, among others, as the manager of the Talmud Torah and school for girls and as the spiritual manger of the Yeshiva. Rabbi Pinchas was also a son-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak Matisyahu Sandberg the founder of the th eUnited Or Torah institutions.
