Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Landau the Rav of Bnei Berak to Maran the Gaon Rabbi Ovadya Yosef whe he became the Rav of Tel Aviv, Bnei Berak, 1969.
In the letter, Rabbi Landau blesses the Gaon Rabbi Ovadya Yosef (the future Rishon LeZion, the leader of Sephardic Jews and one of the greatest Poskim of his generation) for his appointment as the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv. He blesses him with warm and heartly blessings and wishes him success in his new position: "חפץ ה’ בידו יצלח להרים קרן התורה ודת קדשנו ולהעמיד הדת על תילה" The letter is signed with the Gaon Rabbi Landau’s handwritten signature.
The Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Landau (1893-1986), the admired Rav of Bnei Berak and one of the renowned figures of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. Rabbi Yaakov was born in Kronitz to Rabbi Chaim Moshe Yehuda Leib the Rav of the city. After his father’s passing, he succeeded him, influenced by the Rebbe Rashab. In Russia, he headed several Torah and Chassidus institutions and worked for supporting religious life. Was close to the Rashab, the Rayatz and the Rogatchover Gaon. In 1934 he immigrated to the Holy Land and was appointed the Rav of Ramatayim (eventually, Hod HaSharon) and after a short period was appointed the Rav of Bnei Berak, a position he held for dozens of years until his passing.
