On the flyleaf, the oval stamp of the admired Holy Gaon: ‘מאיר ליב פרייא אב"ד ק"ק שוראן והגליל‘. Written on the title page are also the initials: בה"ג – ב’על ה’לכות ג’דולות.
The Holy Gaon Rabbi Meir Leib Frei Rav of Shuran (1878-1944), great Rosh Yeshiva and Posek of his generation. His father Rabbi Yitzchak Tzvi, was the beloved son-in-law of the ‘Kesav Sofer’. He acquired much Torah from his Rebbe and Uncle Maran ‘Sheves Sofer’ and his great Rebbes and geonim Rabbi Kaleiv Feivel Schlesinger Rav of Topoľčany author of ‘Toras Bar-Nash’ and Rabbi Mordechai Leib Winkler author of ‘Levushei Mordechai’ Rav of Mad. The day he married the daughter of his uncle the Gaon Rabbi Yeshayehu Ehrenfeld Rav of Shuran he was appointed to succeed him and ever since he was referred to admiringly as the ‘Shuraner Rov’.
The title page and several first leaves with old restorations to the lower left margins. Some lack of text. Moth holes throughout the Sefer. Detached spine. Stains. No Binding. Fair condition.
