Three POskei Hador! A Unique Letter on Hilchos Berachos and Choshen Mishpas by Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv to His In-Laws, Gedolei Hador, Maran the Steipler and Maran the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach

A letter full of Geonus Torah, depth and study, handwritten by Maran the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv to his two great in-laws the Gon Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky the ‘Steipler’ and the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach. Jerusalem, 1952.

In the lengthy and rare letter, written on both sides of the leaf, the Gaon Maran Rabbi Elyashiv begins to our virtuous friend my Mechusan the renowned Gaon Tzaddik Rabbi Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky Shalita, peace and blessing to him and all that is his. The Gaon Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv became the Mechusan of the Steipler earlier in the year the letter was written.

The letter deals with the Beracha of ruit, Pas Haba’ah BeChisnin of the Sabbath meal, with sources from the Gemora and Poskim.

It is most interesting that the letter was written on Motza’ei Shevi’i of Pesach and Maran Rabbi Elyashiv hurries to respond, immediately after the Festival, to a compilation of Torah innovations by the Steipler which he received before the festival. Due to the Festival he did not find the time to respond ‘ובפרט כי מעכ"ג נ"י לא צריך לא לדידי ולא לדכוותי‘.

On the back of the leaf, a letter handwritten by Maran Rabbi Elyashiv to his future Mechusan Maran the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach. The letter bears th edate ‘Motza’ei Shabbas Kodesh or leyom 21 of Shevas’. The year is not noted.

To my virtuous beloved friend the Rav the great Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach.

The letters are laden with Torah thoughts, approx. 45 lengthy lines, handwritten by Maran the Gaon Rabbi Elyashiv, beautiful dense script, with no correction or erasures.

The letters are not signed by Maran the Gaon Rabbi Elyashiv and they are letter which he kept for himself.

[1] lines paper. 15X21 cm. Very good condition.
