The Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Harlap (1882-1951) – the Rav of Sha’arei Chessed. Was born to his father Rabbi Zevulun who was a Dayan at the Beis Din of the Maharil Diskin and to his mother Mrs. Miriam. He was educated at the Etz Chaim Talmud Torah and studied Torah with his father and with Rabbi Yehoshua Zvi Michel Shapiro (a Tzaddik Kabbalist of Jerusalem). In 1904, influenced by his friend the Gaon Rabbi Zvi Pesach Frank, he met with Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook, who had just immigrated to Eretz Yisroel and became his leading disciple. In 1914, he joined Rabbi Kook and additional rabbis in a journey of revival to the settlements of the Galilee in order to bring their residents closer to the Torah. After Rabbi Kook’s passing in 1935, Rabbi Harlap was appointed Rosh Yeshiva of the Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva, which Rabbi Kook had headed until his passing.
Rabbi Eliyahu ben Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Nachum Porush [Glickman] (1892-1956), Mashgiach at the Etz Chaim Talmud Torah and author of textbooks for its students. His composition "HaChaklaut BaTalmud" (Agriculture in the Talmud), which gathered all the Ma’amarim of the Sages about agriculture, was brought, during World War I, to rabbis, researchers, writers and experienced farmers to be studied and was published after the war, in 1919.
