Lengthy typewritten letter with the handwritten signature of the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yisroel Chaim Kaplan Rosh Yeshivas ‘Toras Chessed’ in Brisk until the Holocaust. With the stamp of the holy yeshiva. Elul 1938.
Written on the stationery is also the address of Maran the great Gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev Soloveitchik ‘The Rav of Brisk’ as one of the heads of the yeshiva.
The letter was sent to the important Rav Rabbi Finkelstein of New York, one of the leading supporters of the yeshiva in the USA. With a detailed description in Yiddish of the situation of the yeshiva, its history and dire financial situation.
The holy yeshiva Toras Chessed, one of the most important yeshivas, asking for the help of the Jews of the Diaspora for its continued existence.
The renowned Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yisroel Chaim Kaplan [1895-1970] a remnant of one of the important families in the world of Lithuanian Torah between the two world wars. His brother was the renowned Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Elazar Ze’ev kaplan, Mashgiach of the yeshiva in Radin which was lead by Maran the Chofetz Chaim. A remnant of generations of Ba’alei Mussar, Geonei Torah and Yirah. A disciple of Maran the Chofetz Chaim and the Tzaddik Gaon the Mashgiach Rabbi Yerucham of Mir, whom he venetually became his son-in-law. After the passing of Maran the Imrei Moshe of Brisk, Rabbi Yisroel Chaim was appointed Rosh Yeshiva of the great yeshiva of Brisk. After the Holocaust, he was appointed Mashgiach at the Beis Midrash Elyon Yeshiva in Monsey. His great son-in-law is the great Gaon Rabbi Dov Ber Povarsky and his sons are also great Marbitzei Torah in the world of yeshivas.
