‘I am Grieving due to the Health of My Disciple who is an Excellent Talmid Chacham’ Compaasionate Letter Handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler to the Gaon Rabbi Meir Kerlitz the Brother of Maran the Chazon Ish
Impressive and unique letter, handwritten entirely and signed by Maran the great Gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler Rosh Yeshivas ‘Etz Chaim Kleck’ to the great Gaon Rabbi Meir Kerlitz Av Beis Din of Lechovich and the older brother of Maran the Chazon Ish, for the health of one of the students of his yeshiva. Kleck, 1928.
A special letter of 11 lines, dealing with matters of Pikuach Nefesh and the health of one of the important disciples of Maran the Gaon Rabbi Aharon Kotler, who with compassion and love of Torah and love of Yisroel pleads with the Gaon Rabbi Meir Kerlitz to persuade Va’ad HaYeshivas to allocate 50 golden coins for his health and to use his ties with senior doctors ‘first, if they see important ones showing interest, they too will show interest, and to see to it that they allow bringing the professors to the consolium and after hearing their opinion it will be easier to reach a decision, if his honor finds it necessary, may he meet with the Gaon Rabbeinu Chaim Ozer Shalita’.
Rabbi Aharon Kotler notes that the sick disciple is a dear and excellent one whose father died during World War I and he is the eldest of the sons and a great Talmid Chacham. ‘I am grieving because of him and may Hashem send him complete cure’. Maran the gaon Rabbi Kotler ends his letter with warm blessings to anyone who assists.
Written on the official stationery: "Metivta Ravta Etz Chaim DeSlutzk no in Kleck". Due to persecutions by the Bolshevik government, the yeshiva moved in 1921 to Kleck near the Polish-Russian border, there the Gaon Rabbi Aharon, the son-in-law of the founder of the yeshiva Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer, became the Rosh Yeshiva.
The great Gaon Maran Rabbi Ahron Kotler (1892-1963) one of the greatest of the generation. The son-in-law of Maran the gaon Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer of Slutzk, the founder of the Kleck Yeshiva, and eventually the founder of the ‘High Beis Midrash’ in Lakewood, the future largest yeshiva in the world which changed the religious face of USA Jewry beyond recognition. One of the heads of Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in the USA and of independent education, who greatly influenced many public decisions in the USA and Eretz Yisroel.
