Sefer Toldos Aharon, references to Biblical verses, one of the first and important books of references to Biblical verses in the words of the Sages, which today is printed in Chumashim alongside the Onkelos translaton and the Rashi commentary. By Rabbi Aharon of Pissaro, with an addition of reference to verses appearing in the holy Zohar, in Sefer haAkedah and Ikarim. [Zuan Di Gara Press], Venice, [1591. Colophon: completed in Sivan 1592]. The personal copy of Rabbi Avraham Alkalai.
159 leaves, 16 cm. Signature of the Gaon Rabbi Avraham Alkalai, editings and additional notations (all in Sephardic Solitreo) appear among the leaves of the Sefer.
This edition is based on an earlier edition, Venice 1591, which introduced verses from the Torah and the Five Scrolls, with an addition of verses from other Sifrei Nevi’im and Ketuvim. In most copies of this edition, the words on the title page "From Chamisha Chumshei Torah and Chamesh Mefilos" were replaced with the words "In the Torah, Nevi’im and Ketuvim"; however, in this copy, the former title page remained unchanged.
Rabbi Avraham Alkalai (ca. 1749-1811) was born in Salonika, Greece and was the disciple of Rabbi Yosef Ibn Ya’ish. In 1780, he moved to Bulgaria and served as Rav and Dayan in Dobnitza. In 1810, he immigrated to the Holy Land and settled in Safed. Authored several Seforim, the most renowned of them "Zechor LeAvraham" (three sections, Ma’arachos and Halachic rules) which became a basic Sefer that is mentioned by leading Poskim. His son, Rabbi Shmuel, was one of the rabbis of Tiberius.
