‘The Admor Shalita is constantly thinking of returning to the Holy Land’. Letter by the loyal Gabai Rabbi Yosef Ashkenazi about the opinion of the holy Rav of Satmar on the rabbinate of Jerusalem.

A lengthy letter by the loyal Chassid Rabbi Ephraom Yosef Dov Ashkenazi, the Gabai and confidante of the holy Rav Rabbi Yoel of Satmar, to his good friend the Chassid Rabbi Zvi Pinchas Hacohen Moskowitz of Jerusalem, the confidante of the Tzaddikim of the generation and one of the leaders of the Satmar community of Jerusalem. 1948.

The letter presents the opinion of Maran the holy and pure Rav of Satmar regarding the suggestion that he serve as the Rav of Jerusalem and this is one the earliest references to his holy opinion, whether to comply or refuse to the rabbinic position.

Rabbi Yossel Ashkenazi reveals what has been unknown until now that indeed the situation is still unclear, but basically, the opinion of the holy Admor Shalta had always been to return! Later he notes: Possibly the question is not an option since the late Gritz has left Jerusalem for a while, and there are many questions and doubts due to the varied groups [he apparently means the agreement of the various groups and parties within HaEdah HaChareidis and outside of it regarding the appointment itself of the Rav of Satmar as the Rav of Jerusalem]. ‘If you there at the holy place feel that it might be accepted – it should be done’.

Towards the end of the letter, the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Yosef Ashkenazi asks whether it is true that R. Amram Barashi Blau is locked down since there are varied opinions on the matter.
