"Va’ad HaIr LeKehilas HaAshkenzaim" (the City Council of the Ashkenazic community) – after the establishment of the City Council of the Jews of Jerusalem in the early Mandate period to constitute an elected body representing the Jewish residents of Jerusalem and taking care of their needs, the Charedi community of Jerusalem established a designated council of Ashkenazic Chareidim titled "Va’ad HaIr LeKehilas HaAshkenzaim". The Charedi rabbis issued an order forbidding observant Jews to be members of the City Council of the Jews of Jerusalem which did not state it acknowledging the authority of the Torah, whose managers are also non-religious Jews and which funds institutions that are contradictory to the lifestyle of the Charedi community.
