The author Rabbi David Ganz (1541-1613) one of the Jewish sages of his generation. Was born in Listadt, Ashkenaz, and at a young age studied at the yeshivas of Bonn and Frankfurt. At the age of seventeen, he left Ashkenaz on his way to study with the Rema in his yeshiva in Krakow. On his way, he visited a relative where he became aware of a book authored by the early Greek scholar Euclid. Rabbi David started taking interest in secular studies and when he studied at the yeshiva of the Rema, from time to time, he also studied secular studies (the Rema did not object). Later, he moved to Prague where he studied Torah with the Maharal alongside his work at the observatory of the famous astronomer Tycho Brahe.
