Sefer Shut Mahari of Bruno, by Rabbi Yisroel of Bruno. R. Grossmand and E. Sherntzel Press, Szczecin, [1860].

[1], 3-126 leaves, 19 cm. Leaf [2] with the approbations of the rabbis of Salonika and the foreword is missing. Important owners’ signature "Sheraga Feivel Av Beis Din of Sieni and now in Ostroh". He is the Gaon Rabbi Sheraga Faivel Serana the Rav of Hordok near Bialystok and previously the Rav of Sieni and Ostrova. His grandson was the great Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Serana Rosh Yeshivas Hebron. 

Rabbi Yisroel ben Rabbi Chaim of Bruno, Mahari Bruno (ca. 1400-1480), one of the greatest Poskin of Ashkenaz, the disciple of Rabbi Yisroel Isserlin author of "Terumas Deshen", Rabbi Yaakov Weill and Rabbi Zalman Katz author of "Sefer HaYeriah". Served as Rav in Bruno, Moravia and as Rav, Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshiva in Bergensburg. Corresponded with the greatest of his generation and wrote halachic responsum and Piskei Halachos. His reponsum were published in the Sefer "Shut Mahari Bruno" and his rulings appeared in the Sefer "Lekes Yosher", in the Seforim of his rabbis and in Piskei HaRama.


The Gaon Rabbi Sheraga Faivel Serana [1826-1892] was born in Froshnitz, Poland, and was one of the leading disciples of the holy Gaon of Tshenchnov and the Volozhin Yeshiva. Rav of Sampalna and Pifiliani. Rav of Sieni for many years and then was appointed Rav of Ostrova. In his last years became the Rav of Sakolka and Hordok near bialystok. His Geonim sons were Rabbi Yaakov Chaim, the father of the great Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Serana, and Rabbi Yehoshua Zvi. His Gaon son-in-law was Rabbi Yechiel Michl Rabinowitz the brother of the renowned Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu Akiva Rabinowitz Av Beis Din of Poltova and the founders of the journals ‘HaModi’ah’ and ‘HaPeles’. 

Renewed binding, the title page is partly detached, perforation and wear to the title page, aging stains, leaf [2] is missing, fair-good condition.
