Letter about Saving Lives Handwritten by the Holy Gaon Rabbi Asher Anschil of Serdaheli and with His Signature.
Letter on matters of the moment and saving Jewish lives handwritten by the Holy Gaon Rabbi Asher Anschil Katz of Serdaheli which was sent to the Rabbinic Rabbi Ze’ev Gross of Budapest. Elul 1943. [Dunaserdaheli].
In his letter, he begs for his son-in-law the Rav Shalita, apparently the Tzaddik Gaon Rabbi Yechiel David Zeltzer, to obtain a visa for him and loterally ave his life.
He ends the letter with the blessing of Ketiva and Chatima Tova.
This letter is one of the last that were written by the Tzaddik Gaon of Serdaheli. Written and signed several months before the Nazi occupation of Hungary.
The Holy Gaon Rabbi Asher Anschil Katz Av Beis Din of Serdaheli and one of the greatest rabbis of Hungary (1880-1944) was born in Tshenger to Rabbi Yonosn Binyomin. In his youth, he studied Torah with the author of Arugos HaBosem. At a young age married the daughter of the Holy Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich of Shamloy. At first he held positions of teacher and Rav in Shamloy until he was appointed Rav of Serdaheli, where he led the community until the Nazi occupation of Hungary. Rabbi Asher Anschil died on Kiddush Hashem with the members of his community in Auschwitz. His grandsons who survived the Holocaust are the Gaon Av Beis Din of Wien and Gaon Av Beis Din of Serdaheli in New York.
