‘Sofrei HaMelech’ Lengthy Letter on Matters of Kashrus, Handwritten Entirely by the Great Gaon Author of the ‘Da’as Sofer’ of Pressburg
Rare! Lengthy letter, handwritten entirely by Maran the Great Gaon Rabbi Akiva Sofer -Screiber Gaon Av Beis Din and Ram of Pressburg on matter of Kashrus, that was sent to his disciple the Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Dov Zinger the Rav of Givat Shmuel and previously the Rav of Beis Meir and Wietzen. Tamuz, 1956.
The letter was sent following the activity of the Gaon Rabbi Zinger to give a Kashrus to a sausage factory which Rabbi Landau the Rav of Bnei Berak had removed its Kashrus certificate. The Da’as Sofer pleads with his disciple to wash his hands of the factory and recommends ‘that his livelihood be by Heter rather than Issur’. Maran asks him not to render the factory Kosher after its Kashrus had been removed by another Rav, calling is a Pirtza Dechuka.
In a rare manner, the letter is handwritten entirely and signed by Maran the Da’as Sofer of Pressburg.
Maran the ‘Da’as Sofer’ the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Sofer – Schreiber (1878-1959) Gaon Av Beis DIn of Pressburg – author of the ‘Da’as Sofer’ one of the greatest of his generation. The great-grandson of Maran the Chassam Sofer and the successor of his ancestors the Kesav Sofer and the Sheves Sofer in leading the community and heading the Yeshiva of Pressburg. He served as the president of the orthodox communities of Hungary. He immigrated to Eretz Yisroel shortly before the outbreak of World War II, reestablished the Pressburg Yeshiva in Jerusalem, was appointed to serve as a member of Moeatzet Gedolei HaTorah and was one of the faithful Jewish leaders.
