Pure silver honey dish which belonged to the Holy Rabbi Meir Leib Frei Av Beis Din of Shuran, a leading Posek and great Rosh Yeshiva in his generation. Grandson of Maran the Kesav Sofer.
Enclosed is confirmation by the Taddik Gaon Shalita, an important member of the Sofer family, confirming that he was bequeathed this item by the Rav of Shuran.
The Gaon Rabbi Meir Leib Frei Av Beis Din of Shuran (1878-1944), great Rosh Yeshiva and Posek of his generation. His father Rabbi Yitzchak Zvi, was the beloved son-in-law of the ‘Kesav Sofer’. He acquired much Torah from his Rebbe and Uncle Maran the Sheves Sofer and his great Rebbes and Geonim Rabbi Kaleiv Feivel Schlesinger Av Beis Din of Topoľčany author of ‘Toras Bar-Nash’ and Rabbi Mordechai Leib Winkler author of ‘Levushei Mordechai’ Av Beis Din of Mad. The day he married the daughter of his uncle the Gaon Rabbi Yeshayehu Ehrenfeld Av Beis Din of Shuran he was appointed to succeed him and from then he was known as the ‘Shuraner Rov.
The honey dish is shaped like a folding oyster shell, made of pure silver, weighing 21 gr. The width altering 1-5 cm., length approx. 6 cm. standing on ornated silver stems.
