Background

The Goldenboim family was famed in Safed. The head of the family was the son of the son of the holy Rav Rabbi Yisroel of Ludmir. This pedigreed family, which were a scion of Maran Or Shivas Hayamim the holy Ba’al Shem Tov, had inherited a gilt, patterned ‘Kaftan’ that had been worn by the Besht himself.

Apparently, as heard by several renowned Tzaddikim, this holy garment was used by the Besht on Sabbath while setting the pure table, what we call ‘Tish Bekitshe’, since on Sabbath day itself, Maran the Ba’al Shem Tov used to wear white clothes.

The garment was passed down through the generations and although it was treated with caution, was torn and worn. The garment was professionally repaired by righteous men who were supervised by the holy Besht’s grandson, a Chassid and Yereh Elokim who took care to preserve each and every thread that dropped out in the repair.

Miracles and wonders worked by this garment:

The repaired Kaftan was brought to some of the Tzaddikim of our generation including the holy Rav of Tosh, when he was sick. The holy Rav of Tosh wore he Kaftan for two hours and then felt better, his oxygen level rising miraculously. Additional wonders were worked with the garment over the years, as specified in the letter by the Besht’s grandson to whose family it had belonged generation following generation.

Maran the Admor of Pshevorsk Shalita did not want to touch the garment and only kissed it with awe saying ‘ס ווערד כל הון שבעלמא נאר א קוק צו טאהן’ and modestly announcing that he is not worthy of even seeing it.

The renowned holy Rav Rabbi Sholom Meir Friedman [1817-1900] the son of the holy Rav Rabbi Avraham Shlomo the son of the renowned holy Rav Rabbi Yisroel Chaim of Ludmir the son of the holy Rav the Malach. Rabbi Sholom Meir immigrated to Safed and was one of its important Chssidic rabbis who was famed as a wonder-worker.

His Chassid son the Gaon Tzaddik rabbi Shlomo Friedman- Goldenboim [1843-1917] also known as ‘Rabbi Avraham Shlomo BeMaharosh’ was one of the greatest Dayanim of Safed an done of its important Sadigura Chassidim. Signed many broadsides as Dayan and one of the imporatnt rabbis of Safed.

His son the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Chaim Aharon Goldenboim. Was born in Safed and was one of its important Chassidim who lived also in Jerusalem.

His son the Tzaddik Rav Rabbi Avraham Yosef [passed away in 1944]’ is buried in Safed close to the gravestone of the holy Ari.

His son Rabbi Shlomo Dov Goldenboim [passed away in 1998] kept the holy garment as a treasure and was famed for guarding it among the entire extended family.

Pieces of the garment that had dropped out during its repair were artistically embedded in this elegant Poilishe Gartl.

Enclosed is confirmation by the Besht’s grandson and the holy Rav HaMalach, whose family owned the garment generation after generation, describing its timeline.

Enclosed is also accompanying material about the Gartl and more.
